This was a two part job. The first was in December and the second was in January. Both times the weather held off and we didn't have to worry about our traveling out of town. I have been so behind in posting that it is ridiculous! There is a another post I am going to make from the first shoot. If you look at a the second row, first image that will give you a hint. I always love heading to Twin for work. It has always been great work and the people have been awesome...especially my driver!

My first billboard is finally up! Well it has been up since January 9th but we were sick around here for 3 weeks and then the weather was bad and now I finally got around to taking a picture of it! There are 5 of these billboards throughout the valley. Three in Boise/Meridian and two in Nampa! If you've gotten on the Connector from downtown Boise then you have seen this billboard!:) My hubby took a picture of me standing in front of the billboard, but I looked like a nerd so I decided not to post it here. If you haven't seen these billlboards yet, keep your eyes on the lookout for them because they come down this week!

Have you been wondering what I have been up to? It has been a long time since my last post. January has been such a busy month for me. My work has taken me out of town and around! I am behind on posting...like usual, but hope to catch up soon! I just finished this shoot this week and I couldn't wait to post it. I bet you can tell why. It was pure torture to smell these cookies for two weeks while shooting and NOT eat them. Have you tried Sweet Valley Cookies in Eagle? If not, you MUST. My kids beg to go there. They offer a variety of 10 different cookies and many other treats, drinks, and food too! It is quite the establishment. They have the most amazing, HUGE cookies at a fantastic price. Heidi, the owner, is the sweetest lady! If she's in while you're there then tell her you saw her cookies here! My favorite cookie? The Brookie! It is a brownie topped with a chocolate chip cookie! THE BEST! My husband likes the snickerdoodles and my kids will eat ANY of them!

This was such a fun and FAST shoot! It was only 29 degrees out so we hurried to get these shots in. The location and light was beautiful, but we were all freezing. I couldn't feel my toes when we were done. They were all troopers and I love the end result.

This was an impromtu shoot. These were taken after one of the calendar shoots. The brothers are son's of an Elks therapist and the sweet little blonde is my niece. I'm sure you recognize her from the many shoots of her that I have posted on this blog! The bottom right image is the reason we were out shooting and the other images were just a bonus. Truth be told I have been taking the older boy's photographs since he was 2. He has never and I mean never smiled for me. Today we a whole different story. He was all smiles. A break-through??? I should say so! I have two other shoots that I am behind on posting. I'll get those up in the next few days.

The St. Luke's Elks Calendar is FINALLY here!!!

It has been a two year labor of love, but the St. Luke's Elks Children's calendar for care 2012 is finally here. I am so excited to show this off! The kids featured in this calendar are patients at the Elks or are children of the therapists and staff at the Elks. It was so amazing to meet these kids and their families and to hear their stories of struggles and successes. The calendar is available for purchase and all proceeds from the sale of the calendar will help the Elks in continuing to treat their pediatric patients. The Elks do not turn anyone away for inability to pay. Now is that awesome or what? This was a newborn/family session of sorts. I was scheduled to take this sweet baby boy's newborn photos when he became sick and had to go to the hospital. He was there for quite some time and now is home! He is just a doll baby. He made all of those sweet cooing noises and gave the occasional smile. His big sister was so quiet and cooperative. My girls were with me and were helping to get smiles. The thing that worked the best??? When her mom called out chicken nuggets! Ha! Kids kill me.

I hardly ever get a dad participate in their newborn shoot... if they are even there. This dad, however, was not only there, but willing to be in so many shots with his son. And he had a bunch of "props" that he had ready for us to use and came up with a few of the poses himself. This little family is so sweet and they were very patient throughout our 3 hour shoot.

This sweet little man joined 3 older sisters! He will be so spoiled! And in true newborn fashion, he was wide awake for most of the shoot. Then when I packed all of my gear up and was ready to go- he completely crashed out! At least I was able to get several shots of his beautiful blue eyes. His two oldest sisters are just drop dead beautiful...I may have to get them to model for me sometime.

I have had this picture since I was 7 years old. The story is this: I was sitting at lunch in 2nd grade when this kid started sharing his pictures from summer vacation. He was flipping through a section of black pictures he had taken himself out of the plane window on the evening ride back home when I noticed this one and immediately asked if I could have it. He said the pictures had to return to his mom, so no, but changed his mind when I offered to trade for the rest of my lunch. I have had it for the last 30 years. It is important to understand that I have nothing else from when I was a child...zero. My parents have never really been photo album types so it was always kept by me, yet, I somehow never lost it. It has survived at least ten moves and one all-inclusive clutter eradication when I met and married Melanie, my wife. I knew I wanted to someday share it with everyone but until the digital era was born had no real way of doing so. Enjoy! I always find myself resisting the urge to explain how cool the detail and subtleties are because it is best if you draw your own conclusions. Just know two things: this picture was taken out of an airplane window at night with an Instamatic film camera long before the days of Photoshop and digital imagery, and I still have the actual hard copy photo after 30 years of not working very hard to keep it.
Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by the in white apparel, who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? First I have to say that shooting outdoors, in the rain, in a park, in the height of "senior" picture time is CRAZY! For this sneak peek I really wanted to do an "outtakes" but I didn't know how this family would feel about it! There are seriously more hilarious outtakes than there are wall worthy ones. But with the two tiny babies, two busy boys and three large dogs this family took it all in stride.

This is Sid. She is a Newfoundland. Isn't she gorgeous? But she is SO big and strong. Trying to move Sid into the right spot was like trying to move a VW beetle...with the emergency brake on! Ha! The bottom picture is Sid's "grandpa" giving her some refreshment. It is hard work being a model...right? Anyway, this family is just so nice. I have the BEST clients. It makes it so nice to do my job.

St. Alphonsus Nampa Oncology Care Center GRAND OPENING! Nampa Commericial Photographer

As you may remember I photographed the St. Al's Nampa Oncology Care Center a few weeks back. Well, they had their grand opening and ribbon cutting last week. Do you love that the top two photos are of food? That's right I may have a small obsession with food! St. Al's Nampa has hired an amazing chef on their staff and he made the most AMAZING red velvet cupcakes! I do not usually like red velvet cupcakes, but I could have had the whole platter. I didn't try any of the other food but it all looked so very delicious...you can see for yourself. If you ever have a stay at the St. Al's Nampa ask for the cupcakes! Ha! I am so blessed to be asked to do all of this wonderful commercial work- I don't take it for granted!

This family is SO nice. They are the ones that let me join in all their cowboy fun! The last time I photographed their little girl she was only weeks old. St. Alphonsus Hospital in Nampa has a brand new Oncology Center. It is still so fresh from the build that it smells like new carpet! The center has tons of windows and lovely views. They have a new Oncologist on their team and he is just a really nice man. You can see him in the bottom picture. They are already treating patients there but their "grand" opening is next month!

This couple is so sweet! They were up for any crazy thing I suggested and weren't afraid to get dirty! Even if it means chicken poop. Yes, that's right. Only the best for my clients. Ha! Well they were good sports and it was fun getting to know them. One of the shooting loactions was a free range chicken farm. The chickens were not afraid of us and as you can see they had no problem walking into the shot and striking a pose. The closer they came the more nervous I became. The roosters were attacking the chickens right next to us. Creeps me out! Anyway I am excited for this sweet couple to welcome their first baby next month. It was so nice to meet them!

Anniversary Cake

My Aunt and Uncle eloped 50 years ago. It was forbidden love! They never had a reception (obviously) so for their 50th anniversary they decided to go all out! They finally got their "wedding" reception and their very first wedding cake! I made the cake. It had been about 4 years since I last made one and I was a little rusty. They cake went through many looks before we finally decided on the one in the very last image. Thankfully I had my super-awesome, icing smoother of a hubby to help me get it back to the plain version each time that I changed my mind! The cake ended up being simple, but it said it all. They pears on the top are real. I went to a friend's orchard and picked them the night before! The little banner on the pear stem reads: "Quite a pair".

Here they are cutting the cake at their reception. I love how they were being so silly about it. That is just how they are; funny and always good for a laugh. My favorite is the center picture. I'm so glad that I was able to be there to capture such a special time in their lives!

This is my "little" brother...single

And this is my "little" brother with his fiancee!!! He just proposed tonight! They are in Rhode Island at her family's beach house. We are so excited and I can't wait to have a new sister in law.

I took these pictures a few weeks ago with my back up camera since my "good" equipment is still at the "shop" from the great camera disaster of 2011.

This shoot was actually done on July 12th. I am SO behind on posting! I was hired to photograph a TV commercial shoot for St. Al's. These babies were so cute. It was fun to watch them interact. The little guy in the last photo, well, I think he was just overwhelmed. He became flat stanley several times during the shoot! So watch for this St. Al's commercial to hit the air!

Elks Wound Center Move -- Eagle Commercial Photographer

I haven't been posting a lot of my commercial work on this blog. Usually the commercial work is for promotion and advertising for the companies that hire me. Typically showing what that particular business does best. Today, I was shooting the move of one of the Elks Wound Centers! They were moving their Hyperbaric Chambers into their location in the Portico Building West on Eagle Rd. I've shot these chambers before with patients in them. These chambers weight 2 tons (so I hear) and it took several hours (like 6) to get the first chamber in the building. A very slow and tedious process. But exciting to watch and photograph. A lot of the Elks' employees including one of the Doctors was there to see the action. It was fun to see how excited they were.

I love when I have clients that are just awesome! And they were funny-so funny and just too cute! These sisters are due in a few weeks and their due dates are only a few weeks apart! Did that make sense? As you can tell from the picture, one is expecting a girl and the other a boy. How perfect is that? The shoot started out with beautiful weather and then gale force winds and cooler temps. swooped in and shut us down. But never the less a lot of laughs were had and we had a great time. Thanks girls!

Ok, so I wasn't "doing" anything but watching everything! We were invited (and by invited I mean I asked if we could go) to a cattle branding. My husband and I secretly want to live like The Man from Snowy River and this is the closest we will ever come! I had a shoot scheduled with this client for this weekend. Then a last minute switch in her schedule came and when I heard the reason-- well I just HAD to go and bring my homeschooling kids with me! So cool. I have hundreds of images that I took while we were there. These are from my husband's iphone since I have not finished going through the ones from my camera. So, here is a sneak peek until I can post some of the others. Thanks D family for letting us be there!

Memorial Day 2011

On this Memorial Day, our family remembers my grandfather J.D.R. who was an officer in the Army during WWII, my other grandfather C.I.S. who was in the Navy during WWII and my great, great grandfather F.M.K. who fought in the Civil War. And of course we thank my father in law and husband for their military service. And we thank all military personnel and their families for their service. We were driving by this very old cemetery in Lake Fork today and visited the final resting place of the father of a friend of my husband's. He was a Vietnam veteran.

2011 Seniors Boise Area Senior Photographer

The teacher of this class of seniors wanted photos done. These kids were so fun! I love when you tell them to be "serious" and they give you "school photo" smiles. Then you ask them to be silly and their real personalities shine through! I think I could have changed locations 20 times and they would come up with something new each time. I also did a few senior shoots while I was there. I'll post a sneak peek of those this weekend. Oh! I love when I am in the picture...I kid! Do you see the read arrow in the top photo? This extended family was one of the nicest I have ever worked with. They were all such troopers to be out in the cold and wind. And really they were so, so nice! They have been waiting for their sneak peek since Friday, but there were so many fun shots that I couldn't pick just one to post! I had to make a collage and even then I had trouble picking my favorites. The kids were freezing in their short sleeves, but they didn't complain-- they just did everything I asked and then ran for covers!

This is the second time I've worked with these firemen. They are the biggest jokers on the planet. I left with a crick in my side from all of the laughing. This precious little gal was so fun to shoot! We have been trying to complete this shoot for months. Something would always happen- the weather (how dare the clouds cover the sun!), illness, broken arm, naps. It was amazing that it finally happened. Baby K went along with every "wardrobe" change with such ease. And she happily posed for the camera...and the squeaky duck! My kids got a kick out of her, too.

Baby L Sneak Peek! Cascade Newborn Photographer

Ok, so this was the mother of all shoots! We take a leisurely drive up to Cascade early this morning. Then it begins to snow-hard. I drive to my shoot only to get stuck in the long, curving, uphill driveway. I called my client to let her know that I was stuck in the snow in the driveway. She offers to drive down to pick me up. She gets down to me, we begin to load my gear into her car. The whole while we are slipping and falling down. We get in her car. She hits reverse and we go nowhere! She is stuck, too! She tries a few more times to back up and on the final attempt her SUV slides down the drive into my car! Is that not the best way to begin a shoot? Long story shortened. She calls a family member to pull my car out. An hour of digging and towing later it was free! This is a picture of my car being pulled out! Notice that I am up the driveway with the iphone documenting, not helping. I'm sure they thought that I was awesome.

And this sweet, little babe is what the fuss was all about. She is only 10 days old. She is such an itty bitty and was wide awake for most of the shoot. This is one of the only images with her blue eyes closed, but is the only one with the big smile! Notice the dimple! So precious! I hope you like your sneak peek and aren't afraid to call me again! Ha!

These boys have the funniest mom. She will stop at nothing to get them to smile and look in the same direction at the same time. I was laughing so hard watching her laugh at herself. It was awesome. I love it when shoots are light-hearted and silly. Makes it so fun!

Happy New Year! Wow! It seems that time is just flying by! Here is a shoot that I took last Thursday. Sorry, D Family, that you had to wait to view your sneak peek! The D Family was SO fun to work with. It was -2 degrees outside and they were willing to try anything I asked. Even hiking in waist deep snow, uphill to get a great shot! What troopers! And I LOVED Mrs. D's adorable outfit. I never looked that cute in my third trimester!

Sweet sisters on a 4th birthday shoot!

I have been so busy and not with work! Ha! This was a quick birthday shoot, with a full shoot to follow in the nicer weather. These little gals were so cute with their practiced, "cheese!" Their Christmas tree made a pretty backdrop. I always love the "bokeh" from the lights! More shoots to come later this month. So, watch for the sneak peeks!

Seeing Red...

I photographed this growing family of four over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was FREEZING outside...9 degrees to be exact, so we had to shoot indoors. I know, I don't shoot indoors, but we had to. They had a large picture window that was almost enough light to get crisp images. And the best part-- we were warm! And don't you just love the red???

I really wish that I had a picture of my father in law in his uniform for this post. I know I have one of him in his West Point uniform, maybe I'll dig that out. I'll have to see if I can get a "real" uniform one from them. He served a tour in Vietnam as a path finder. Awesome. And my hubby is the one on top, with the gun.

Caramel Apples

We've been cooped up in the house with pneumonia for almost a month now. We have all turned the corner and are feeling better. Then end of this sickness is nearing--Praise Jesus!! And what does a family of 5 do while staying home all of that time. Lots of make-believe and snacks. One of my girls saw a recipe for these and wanted to make them. We didn't have all of the ingredients for scratch caramel in the house, but we did have caramel sheets! Who woulda thunk it? So, we made do.
Here is the recipe for the scratch version in case you had an inkling:
from Cooking Light
16 wooden sticks and small apples
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. water
2 c. half and half
2 t. vanilla
1/4 t. salt
Put sticks into apple centers. Place sugar, corn syrup, and water in a large saucepan; boil, stirring until dissolved. Boil, w/o stirring, 9 minutes. Combine half and half, vanilla, and salt; slowly stir into pan. Boil until candy thermometer reaches 325 (45 min), stirring frequently. Pour caramel into a bowl sitting in a hot water bath. Swirl apples in caramel, and place on baking sheet lined with wax paper.

Tu-Tu much fun

Well, it is official...ALL of my kids have pneumonia now! Well, one has been healed, but still has the nasty cough. And this is not just any pneumonia, drug resistant pneumonia. It is just awesome! I am still not back to work, but will be soon. As soon as it is not possible to spread this loveliness to others! The Lord has been faithful and we are thankful! Here is a picture from last week. I had just finished making that tutu and the kids were wearing it as a wig. Awesome. Excuse the extremely grainy, iphone pic. That what you get with the glow of the TV as your light source.

Starry, Starry Night

I have been MIA for a while. One of my kiddos had to be hospitalized with a terrible illness. She is home, but we are still out of all the action for now. I apologize to all of the clients who had their shoots cancelled. I will try to get things up and running again soon! And since posts without pictures are boring, here is one that I took earlier this month up in the mountains. This is what the sky looks like without all of the lights of the city. Can you believe all of the stars??? I love it.

Mr. C Sneak Peek -- Boise Senior Photographer

I was a little worried about this shoot during our buckets of rain this morning. However, the clouds parted and out came the sun! It ended up being a beautiful evening to work in. This fellow plays for the Junior Boise Philharmonic. It was great to ask him to play his violin under the guise of taking his photograph, but really just wanting to hear him play! Ha!

The models were beautiful and they gave us their best model "pouts". It was a fast and furious shoot trying to beat the sunset. The parents were great--it was so nice to meet ALL of you. I appreciate all of the parents getting their models into wardrobe and going with my fast pace. I couldn't have asked for a better group of models and model parents. Thanks!

This little family has graced this blog a few times. This time the shoot was special because the Daddy leaves on Monday to serve his country for year. I'm glad that I was able to capture these moments of them together before he leaves.

I am looking for newborns, babies and young toddler(12-18 months) girl models. They will be modeling darling, girly hair accessories. You (the parents) have to be willing to sign a release as the images will be used on a website selling the items! You will also be compensated for your time (details of compensation will be given when hired!) If you are interested, please email a RECENT photo of your child to me. It can be an iphone pic, it just needs to be taken within the last month. If you have questions or know someone who might be interested, please contact me. Space is limited. I am only accepting girls at this time as the boy spots are already filled.
